Some of you might be wondering, what are we going to do with all these trees, bushes, vines, etc. Plant them of course. We don't have the land, yet, but hopefully sometime in the near future we'll be able to acquire a decent sized piece of land.
We don't plan on planting every single plant we grow into the ground. With the vines and bushes we plan on saving a dozen or so, and we plan on saving at least 2 of each tree. What will happen with our extras, we're giving them away. Due to the success of our kiwi plants, we already have a long line of friends wanting some when their big enough. In return the friends have promised to save plastic containers such as yogurt cups, butter containers, sour cream containers etc. so we can plant out plants in them.
Since I was a child I have always tried to plant tree seeds to no avail. Aside from the fact that I had no instructions. (Good luck finding a book about this at your local library and the Internet wasn't available until my teens)I once cracked every peach, nectarine, apricot, and plum pit my mom bought during the summer and planted them all over the backyard. Two things happened: 1. like most kids I was quite impatient and kept digging them up to see if they had grown. 2. no one knew what the plants looked like so they got pulled along with the rest of the weeds. Now as an adult, I have the patience and I have the seeds growing in a more controlled environment. (Not to mention the Internet giving me helpful tips)
Everyone has their dream home, but since I was a child, my dream home has also included my dream backyard. I wanted a forest full of fruit trees. This is just bringing me one step closer to my dream. (I'm only in my 20s, there's still time)
